Wayyyy back in 1994 one of the best simulation games I have ever played (that did not bare the Sim name) was released. The game was Transport Tycoon, and I loved everything about this game. It is based on building a working transportation network to connect cities all across the map so that they can exchange goods, mail , and other resources. You can also connect different industries as well such as connecting a forest to a wood mill. To do this you have all modes of transportation including truck, planes, ships and trains. You can even set up public bus networks in all the towns. But you have to keep the citizens happy or they will revolt against your company and refuse to let you do business in their town! And did I mention you have competitors? That’s right, while you are trying to build your transportation empire AI companies will start to spring up and attempt to run you out of business before you can do the same to them!
You must build all the road and rail lines as well as train stations, truck depots, bus depots or anything else you need to maintain your business.
Transport Tycoon was originally released for MS-DOS, and later a Windows Compatible version came along called Transport Tycoon Deluxe. This game is a freeware open source clone of the original that mimics the game play in every way while improving on the original in many ways. It may look a tad dated, but don’t let the looks fool you, of you love a good sim management game you have to give this one a try!
